What Is an AIReady™ Score and How Is It Calculated?

If you have ever wondered whether your website is actually visible to AI search engines — not just Google — the AIReady™ Score was built to answer that question.

It is a single number, from 0 to 100, that tells you how prepared your site is to be found, understood, and cited by AI-powered search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google AI Overviews.

Think of it as a credit score for your AI search visibility.

Why a Score?

The challenge with AI search readiness is that it involves dozens of different technical and content signals. Schema markup. Entity clarity. AI bot accessibility. Content depth. Citation authority. FAQ structure.

No single factor tells the whole story. But a score that weighs all of them together gives you an immediate, actionable snapshot of where you stand.

A score of 85+ means your site is well-optimized for AI search. A score of 40 means you have significant gaps that are likely costing you visibility in AI-generated answers.

What Goes Into the AIReady™ Score

The score is calculated from 40+ individual checks across six core categories.

1. Technical Accessibility (20 points)

Can AI engines actually reach and read your site?

  • Is GPTBot, PerplexityBot, or ClaudeBot blocked in your robots.txt?
  • Does your site load fast enough for crawlers?
  • Is your content rendered server-side (not hidden behind JavaScript that bots cannot execute)?
  • Are your pages returning correct HTTP status codes?

This is the foundation. If AI bots cannot crawl your site, nothing else matters.

2. Structured Data / Schema Markup (20 points)

Does your site speak the language machines understand?

  • Do you have Organization or LocalBusiness schema?
  • Are your articles marked up with Article or BlogPosting schema?
  • Do you have FAQPage schema on pages with Q&A content?
  • Is your schema valid and complete (no syntax errors, no missing required fields)?

Schema is one of the clearest signals you can send to an AI engine. Sites with comprehensive, valid schema consistently outperform those without it.

3. Entity Clarity (15 points)

Is it immediately obvious who you are, what you do, and who you serve?

  • Does your homepage clearly state your business name, category, and location?
  • Is your "About" content specific and unambiguous?
  • Are your products or services described with enough specificity for an AI to categorize them?
  • Is your brand mentioned consistently across your site?

AI engines work with entities — named things with defined attributes. The clearer your entity signals, the more confidently an AI can reference you.

4. Content Quality and Depth (20 points)

Does your content actually answer questions thoroughly?

  • Do your pages address the questions your audience is asking?
  • Is your content comprehensive, or does it skim the surface?
  • Do you have FAQ sections that mirror real user queries?
  • Are your headings structured as questions where appropriate?

AI engines are answer machines. They cite sources that answer questions well. Thin, keyword-stuffed content scores poorly here.

5. Citation and Authority Signals (15 points)

Does the broader web treat your site as a credible source?

  • Are you referenced by other authoritative sites in your industry?
  • Do you have consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone) data across directories?
  • Are you listed in relevant industry databases or knowledge graphs?
  • Does your content get shared and linked to?

6. AI Visibility Signals (10 points)

Specific signals that affect how AI engines perceive and use your content.

  • Do you have a clear content update cadence (freshness)?
  • Is your content structured for easy chunking and retrieval?
  • Do you have clear authorship signals?
  • Is your site free of content that AI engines are trained to deprioritize (thin pages, duplicate content, misleading claims)?

What Your Score Means

ScoreStatusWhat It Means
85–100ExcellentWell-optimized for AI search. Minor improvements available.
65–84GoodSolid foundation with meaningful gaps to address.
45–64FairSignificant issues limiting your AI search visibility.
25–44PoorMajor gaps across multiple categories. Urgent action needed.
0–24CriticalFundamental issues blocking AI search visibility entirely.

The Most Common Score Killers

In our audits, these are the issues that drag scores down most often:

  1. AI bots blocked in robots.txt — often accidentally, from a template or plugin default
  2. No schema markup at all — extremely common on small business sites
  3. Vague entity signals — homepages that say "we provide solutions" without specifics
  4. No FAQ content — missing the most direct path to AI citations
  5. JavaScript-rendered content — content that only appears after JS executes, invisible to many crawlers

How to Improve Your Score

The good news: most score improvements are technical fixes, not content rewrites. Adding schema markup, fixing your robots.txt, and improving your entity signals can move your score significantly without touching a word of your existing content.
